ベネディクト16世教皇様はかつて次のように証言なさったのでした。
少なからぬ影響力を持つグループが、私たちに「ひざまずく」ことを止めさせようと試みてきます。「私たちの文化に合わない」と言います（一体、どの文化に？）。「まっすぐに立って、神に向かって歩く成人（a grown man）には似つかわしくない」あるいは、「救われた人はキリストによって自由となり、もはやひざまずく必要がないので、ふさわしくない」と言います。

「大人であること」は悪いことではありません。しかしそれは、他のあらゆる事と同様、善用もされ得れば悪用もされ得ます。人間が権威に対して「頭［こうべ］を上げ」始めることへの “誘い水” としても使われ得るのです。
「立って手で受ける聖体拝領」の背後にあるのが正にそのような思想、メンタリティです。

しかし──今までいっぱい見て来たから、ここでは、はしょって言いますが──こういうのは “悪魔の誘い水” なのです。
