  7. By the way, could you tell me the background of Hino?
Hino used to be the private estate of the lord of the manor of Hino clan who is a family of court noble of Fujiwara clan in Heian period,
and became the temple estate included with Daigo area of Daigo-ji temple,
which chief priest was also from noble or imperial, in the early modern period.
Near the gate of a nearby junior high school, the Hino-tanideracho Ruins were excavated in 1984, revealing pits and stone collections from the Jomon period, pits from the Nara period,
Remains such as pits and ditches from the Kamakura period, Jomon pottery, and relics such as Hajiki-ware and Sueki-ware from the Nara period to the Muromachi period were confirmed.
The geology is alluvium (yellow-brown clay soil), and most of it has been used as paddy, vegetable, tea or bamboo fields. Therefore, Hino was functioned as Kyoto's suburban producing area of them.

  8. Speaking of which, I heard that there is something called Rakuto Canal.
The Rakuto Canal, which draws water from Biwako-sosui (The Lake Biwa Canal), is an irrigation canal built between 1942 and 1947. By 1943, all the way up to Daigoji Nyonindo was made of concrete,
After that, the excavation from there to Hinogawa was bare. Therefore, there was little water flow in Hino area, people changed to use well water mainly, around 1955, Hino gave up the rights to the irrigation canal.
The Rakuto irrigation canal the part which made of concrete where is north of Daigoji Temple is still used because of above reason.
Currently, water is drawn from a pond on the edge of the mountain in Hino area (the pond that remains today was constructed before the mid-Edo period and was taken from here,
and the newer pond that was reclaimed around 2012 was constructed during the late Edo period),
A part of the waterway has barely survived as the main line leading to the paddy fields, but it has mostly returned to nature or has become residential land.
