Prayer for World Peace

世界平和の祈り Prayer for World Peace

On the 6th of August every year, the date the first ever atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, we float lanterns adrift down Motoyasu River in front of the Atomic Bomb Dome. While praying for the repose of the victims of the atomic bomb and devastation of war, and the general dead, we send messages of peace out to the whole world and pray for lasting peace. This was and will be exhibited in the 26th WORLD PEACE ART EXHIBITION 2018 (June 26 - 29, 2018, JMS ASTER PLAZA, Hiroshima, and Sept.19 - 24, 2018, Palais des Nations'1211, Geneve, Switzerland).

"Peace Message Lantern Floating At 8:15 am on August 6, 1945, the world's first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. The atomic bomb killed many people in an instant, but many were severely burned even if they escaped immediate death. Many of them died as they entered the nearby river because they couldn't stand the heat and pain. Around 1947, when the city of Yami was crowded around the stations such as Hiroshima, Yokogawa, and Koi, and barracks-built shops finally started to be built in the center, the bereaved families and citizens who lost their relatives and acquaintances due to the atomic bomb made a memorial service. Therefore, it is said that the beginning of "Toro nagashi" was the flow of handmade lanterns into the river. It is common to write the name of the deceased person (legal name or common name) and the name of the person who shed it (owner's name) on the lantern, but recently, people from Japan and abroad have come to "Peace". The sight of writing "thoughts" is also an eye I came to stand. "Toro nagashi", which has a long history, has come to have both meanings of "consolation" and "peace message".
