Old village succession

Old village succession Early in the morning, people together in the historic village (the World Heritage Site) Shirakawago try to shovel snow off the roof loaded last night to preserve their old houses of Gassho style (a house with a steep rafter roof).

英国王立美術協会名誉ゲスト会員

Prior to this, "the Honorary GUEST Membership card of the Royal Society of British Artists" was handed by Mr. James Horton, President of the Royal Society of British Artists on February 18th, 2017 at Tokyo.

I was asked to make a speech at the opening ceremony of MINERVA2017 in London.

Speech at the opening ceremony:Thank you for your introduction. I am Jinsei Ikegawa, a sumi-ink painter from JAPAN. First of all, I want thank you all for coming to this ceremony. On behalf of all the visitors from Japan, I would like to thank you all organizers of this event, members of the Royal Society of British Artists and Qualiart for giving us very valuable chance to exhibit our arts in this wonderful gallery today.
オープニングセレモニー挨拶 When I heard this MINERVA2017 from Qualiart, I immediately decided to participate in it. Because I love the United Kingdom as much as you. In the UK, there are a lot of favorites that I have liked since I was a child, such as Shakespeare, Thunderbirds, Sherlock Holmes, Beatles, and the Wimbledon tennis, etc. Among them, I am particularly absorbed in Turner’s paintings recently. I love the great painter, Mr. Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775-1851). Especially, his paintings in later years which are surrounded by light and shadow in the fog have a close common point with Japanese sumi-ink painting. Our exhibition held in the UK where the great painter, Turner, lived will become our great memories forever. Around the same time as our event, “Hokusai beyond the Great Wave”, is held in the British Museum now. Our Japanese Great painter, Hokusai Katsushika (1760-1849), lived in almost the same era as British great painter, Turner. We are very happy that everybody in UK are interested in Hokusai. We are also very proud of Hokusai, too. This is one of his paintings, "the Great wave off Kanagawa". In the great waves over the small Mt. Fuji, sailors were rowing their boats against them. I am impressed by the expression of wave crest and men's efforts for it because I am also interested in waves in sumi-ink painting. I found that British painter Turner was also interested in this waves and men’s efforts for it from his paintings. In a word, the UK and Japan have a very strong, common point in the art. The object of our event MINERVA2017 is to aim to exchange the British and Japanese arts. It is a great chance that Hokusai assists it. I pray for this art exhibition MINERVA2017 to be held successfully. We look forward to keeping this friendship with you forever. Thank you.
オープニングセレモニー挨拶 I did magic tricks during my speech.

"Ladies and gentlemen! Do you know Hokusai's painting ?" and "Here !"

I took out one wrapper of Hokusai's painting "The great waves off Kanagawa” hid in the cuff of my suit. My speech was more applauded than my painting.
